Esser Plumbing and Heating of Perham has seen major changes over the years with the products and services provided for area customers. With this in mind, Esser now has what it calls the Esser Family of Companies.
“The new name defines more specifics about what we do,” said Joe Esser, Sr., who operates the business with his son, Joe Esser, Jr.
Under the umbrella of Esser Family of Companies are three divisions, 1) Aire Serv — heating and air conditioning service, 2) New construction — from plumbing and heating for cabins up to installations at 100-unit housing complexes, and 3) Mr. Rooter — Plumbing and drain service.
Joe Esser, Sr.’s father, Bob, purchased Perham Plumbing and Heating from Stan Sayer in 1955. Sayer had started the business in 1948. Joe, Sr., bought the business from his father in 1974.
Esser now employs 35 in Perham. Ken Altstadt is general manager and Joe Guck is operations manager.
Many employees have been with Esser Plumbing and Heating from 10 to 20 years. Among them are master and journeyman plumbers.
”We pride ourselves on the people who work here and the quality of work provided for our customers,” Joe, Sr. said. ”We’re always excited to get a chance to form another business relationship, whether it’s with a contractor, service customer or vendor. We’ve been fortunate to get to know many good people over the years.”
Customers have contracts with Esser Plumbing and Heating for annual maintenance of their systems.
“For every furnace tune-up, $5 is donated by our business to an area school,” said Esser Marketing Manager Tara Weber. “We as a company want to be supportive of our area communities. Our employees also are active in various clubs and organizations.”
The business has a long-time solid reputation with general plumbing, heating, cooling and air conditioning. Esser also is involved with projects such as geothermal (ground source heat pumps).
Major product lines are Kohler plumbing supplies and Aire Serve and replacement systems. Many customers do their own work, referred to as jack of all trades types of people.
Esser prides itself on its experience in order to complete projects at processing plants, grocery stores, hospitals, clinics, financial institutions, educational institutions, office complexes, professional buildings and custom homes. A few of the major completed contracts include Perham Library, Dean’s Country Market, Barrel ‘O Fun, Kenny’s Candies, Perham Memorial Hospital, Beclin Foods and many homes.
